DEATH VALLEY:
I've spent time wandering Death Valley and still feel like I've only seen a fraction of it. At 3.4 million acres — the largest national park in the contiguous US — it simply can't be rushed. The sheer distances combined with many unpaved roads will humble even the most ambitious itinerary, and much of it will just pass by your car window if you're not careful. Slow down, and you'll find some of the most fascinating landscapes in the country. And if you're lucky, you might witness a super bloom, when the valley floor erupts in wildflowers, or even stand in the shallow waters of Lake Manly in Badwater Basin — the lowest point in North America at 282 feet below sea level.
